The Hatsuyuki is the third ship of the Fubuki-class of "Special Type" destroyers. Although a revolutionary design, it was plagued by a weak hull when the her bow was shorn off by the force of waves during a typhoon in 1935. This incident led the Japanese Navy to give its destroyers strengthening modifications. She went on to see action at the Battle of Malaya and the Battld of Sunda Strait.
