The 1978 Sandown (Hang Ten) 400 was an endurance race for Group C Touring Cars. The event was staged at the Sandown International Motor Racing Circuit on September 10, 1978 over a total distance of 401km. The event was Round 2 of the 1978 Australian Championship of Makes and cars competed in three engine capacity classes including 3001 to 6000cc, 2001 to 3000cc and up to 2000cc. Peter Brock, in his #05 Holden A9X Torana, was relatively unchallenged throughout the 129 laps around the Sandown Circuit, finishing with a comfortable victory, 1 lap ahead of the second place Holden Dealer Team sister car, the #15 Holden A9X Torana driven by Brock’s team mate John Harvey. The top 5 finishers of the Sandown 400 were all Holden A9X Toranas, driven by Brock, Harvey and other legends of the game including Barry Seton and Allan Grice.
