Introduced in 1980 the Audi quattro was originally envisaged as a low volume motorsports homologation special. However, worldwide demand for a car that became a legend during its own production life was such that Audi continued to develop the car through the 1980s. They added ABS brakes in late 1983 and progressively more powerful engines until the quattro finally ceased production.
