The 450 SEL was an improved version of its predecessor as it remedied the cramped seating problem. In Australia the big change came in 1977 when ADR27A emission regulations chopped the 4.5-litre engine's output by 18kW, adding almost two seconds to the SEL's 0-100km/h time.
